The British Association of Iconographers encourages the teaching and the explanation of the meaning of icons to youngsters and we have a special family membership which costs £25 per year and includes the whole family.
At our Exhibition – Icons Today – in St Saviours church in Pimlico in 2012 there was a section of children’s icons exhibited (which drew many gasps from spectators when they realised they were painted by children) and can be seen in the Catalogue of the exhibition on sale here

Children learning icon painting in Belgium
Sr Esther has sent in these photos of children learning icon painting in Belgium. The class takes place once a week. It looks as though there are helpers, who may be either their mothers or painters who attend the adult classes. The classes are run by a sister (shown in the last picture) who has an art studio for this purpose; she belongs to the Sisters of Charity, and is a friend of another sister in the congregation who is a relative (sister) of one of our sisters at Turvey Abbey.
